Morotai was everything and more than our expectations! Alex Djangu was an excellent and very professional guide, thank you for recommending him His organization was impeccable. Rob and I now have great friends in Indonesia and are planning to return next year. The Morotai Tourism people were wonderful, they took such good care of us and were an excellent source of knowledge. So much so that I am organizing hopefully for an ANZAC Day ceremony at the Morotai War Cemetery, if our RSL will be involved. Travel to and from Morotai was a real adventure, but quite manageable for anyone with reasonable mobility. I am also in the process of putting together a tour for relatives/historians through RAAF Squadron Associations. Thanks once again Theodora

Hello
Alex, how are you? I hope you are well. We were just looking at
pictures from our visit to Halmahera last year and wondering how things
are there. What about your forest conservation projects?
I hop everything is good for you and your family. We had a lot of fun with you.
best wishes from Prague
Miller and Jenny

Dear Alex
This is Adam, the Danish guy you gave the most amazing tour of Halmahera in 2010.
I think of you often and just wanted to let you know that not a week passed where I don't think of volcanic lakes, Sulawesi and Indonesian rainforest.
I'm living in Berlin, now finishing my final semester at the university (finally!). Next year I plan to take an education as a sailor and then hopefully start sailing for real.
How are you? Let me know how you are keeping up and if any of your great plans are materialising!
Warm regards-
Adam !

HISTORICAL PLACES IN MOROTAI AND HALMAHERA ISLAND
General Douglas MacArthur's staff knew that if U.S. forces held an airstrip in this group of islands in the Dutch East Indies they would have a strategic base from which to launch operations against the Philippines, about 400 miles away.
To meet the October timetable for MacArthur's return to the Philippines, troops of the 31st Division and the 126th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Division, had streamed ashore on Morotai on September 15, completely surprising and dispersing an enemy force of 1,000 men. Airstrips were immediately built to accommodate the Consolidated B-24 Liberator bombers of the Thirteenth Air Force. A strong perimeter defense around the new base was adequate protection against the small, disorganized elements of Japanese remaining on Morotai.
I SHALL RETURN
An Old airport built by US and UN soldiers in 1944, it's located in Wama Morotai. It has 7 strip all together, now the 3 strips are used by Indonesian Air Force and the other 5 strips are covered by weeds and plantation.
The soldiers were mostly Australian in that mission, one of them might be your father or grand father
